A Los Angeles Police Department officer shot and wounded two people after they attempted to burglarize his home in Downey early Monday, authorities said.

The officer was not on duty when he confronted the burglary suspects around 1 a.m. in the 7600 block of Borson Street, according to Downey Police Department Chief Carl D. Charles.
The two individuals assaulted the off-duty officer, who fired his weapon during the confrontation at the suspects, injuring both of them, Charles said in an emailed statement.
A female neighbor told KTLA she heard two gunshots.
"After hearing the two shots, I saw there was a police car out here already, because I saw the flashing lights through the window," said the woman, who identified herself as Pat.
It was unclear where the shooting took place, though a large pool of blood was visible on a driveway outside a home, aerial video from Sky5 showed. The neighbor said she saw someone down on the driveway.
"I looked out, and I saw ... a man laying on the driveway," Pat said.
Both suspects were transported to a local hospital in unknown conditions, according to LAPD Capt. Andrew Neiman.
Their names have not been released, and it was unclear if they had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The officer, who was not shot during the incident, received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment, Neiman said. His injuries were described by Charles as minor.
Hours after the incident happened, crime scene tape blocked off the street, and multiple patrol vehicles remained at the scene.
No other information was released about the case, which is being investigated by Downey police, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and the Office of the Inspector General.
