Video Captures Historic Taco Bell’s Journey From Downey to Irvine

Strapped in and secured to the back of a truck, the original Taco Bell, "Numero Uno," was ready for its 45-mile journey across the border. The border of Los Angeles and Orange counties, that is.

The boxy white building with the tiny stone arches was met by fans and former employees Thursday night as they celebrated its journey to Taco Bell headquarters. About 50 people surrounded the dirt lot the shop has called home for decades, snapping photos and standing in line for free crunchy tacos or bean and cheese burritos from a Taco Bell food truck.

Sure, it was no "Levitated Mass" art spectacle or space shuttle Endeavour, but the three-hour move of the first Taco Bell from Downey to Irvine was historic in its own way. The 53-year-old building’s relocation to Taco Bell headquarters saved it from impending demolition.

"If they can move a space shuttle, we can move a 400-square-foot restaurant," Taco Bell spokesman Matt Prince said Thursday.
